CHAT Serves 58 Children with Summer Programs

Aug 8, 2019 | News

In the summer of 2018, we launched an initiative in partnership with Distinctive Schools to bring our life changing summer literacy and social communication programs to their students. For many of these kids and their families, the lack of transportation is a barrier to services, so we wanted to serve them where they live.

We held a happy hour to raise funds to support this program, and through that and the generosity of a few special families were able to serve 18 kids our first year. To increase accessibility for working families, we created a new, intensive half-day program, combining our literacy and social communication program into one. This past summer, we increased our numbers to 33 children and expanded to a second Distinctive location. Generous gifts and a successful second happy hour enabled us to significantly increase our impact.

In 2019, we also launched a special partnership with Child’s Voice, serving 15 of their students during their own summer program, as well as continuing our programs at our day care partner in Hinsdale and our clinic in Lombard. Altogether, we brought life changing summer programs to 58 children. With your help, we can reach even more in summer 2020 (click here for interest form)!
