Voice Hygiene for the Educational Professional

Apr 16, 2021 | Blog

April 16th is World Voice Day. In recognition, we are sharing the timely presentation given to our whole team by one of our SLPs, Kayla, all about vocal hygiene for educational professionals!

Teachers can be classified as heavy occupational voice users, as it is necessary that they use their voice frequently throughout the day. With this increased voice usage comes the increase in susceptibility to vocal misuse/abuse and development of vocal disorders. This presentation examined the effectiveness of various different approaches (such as vocal hygiene, vocal amplification, vocal function exercises, resonant therapy, and respiratory muscle training) for educators. Discussion also included how COVID-19 has increased demand on voice and how SLP’s can advocate for themselves and others in the educational field.
