I became an SLP because…
I’ve always been fascinated by language, culture, and health/medicine. After pivoting from teaching English abroad to pastry and candy making (really!) to working with grants at a Chicago nonprofit, I knew I wanted a career that felt deeply purposeful and that resonated with my interests. Speech-language pathology was suggested to me and it felt like the perfect fit: a helping profession that combines health, communication, advocacy, and creativity. I jumped right in and here I am!
What makes you excited about your work?
I’m most excited to make connections with families and figure out how I can best help them. I liken it to baking in the way that I love learning what foods and flavors people like, then surprising them with a treat they enjoy. I want to find a recipe that combines their needs, their participation, and my skills to create moments of progress however big or small.
In my free time I enjoy…
I enjoy cooking and baking, strength training (my goal is to compete in powerlifting events one day), reading books, and spending time walking or watching TV with my dog, Leo.
