Jessica Velazquez is the inaugural chairperson of CHAT’s Associate Board as of January 2021. Given her lifelong dedication to increasing access and empowerment for marginalized communities, Jessica was drawn to CHAT’s values of advocacy, education, and social justice.
Jessica is an assistant director in the University of Chicago’s Office of Civic Engagement, working primarily in the portfolios of strategic initiatives, community partnerships, local government relations, and campus planning. In this role, Jessica provides assistance to a variety of programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life on the South Side of Chicago. Prior to joining the Office of Civic Engagement, Jessica worked in an academic unit at the University of Chicago, as well as for a philanthropic management consulting firm.
Jessica graduated summa cum laude from DePaul University with a B.A. in English, Literary Studies, and is currently pursuing an MBA, also from DePaul University.
