SB100

Dec 13, 2019 | Blog

This presentation looked at SB100, which is an IL law intended to transform school discipline practices in Illinois and weaken the school-to-prison pipeline. The bill provides guidelines about the severity of discipline in particular circumstances (e.g. when a suspension is warranted vs an expulsion) as well as other recommendations to schools like the use of trauma-informed practices/restorative justice and professional development for school staff on the school-to- prison pipeline. The presentation also discusses what restorative practices may look like and the viewpoints of educators on the success of implementation since becoming law in 2016.
