Language Sample Analysis: A Tool for Assessment and Clinical Practice

Oct 8, 2019 | Blog

Often a component of a comprehensive speech-language assessment, a language sample provides a non-biased, valid, and reliable look into an individual’s receptive and expressive language abilities to determine if that individual presents with a language disorder. However, SLPs in survey studies (and at CHAT) report that transcribing and analyzing (comparing to age-matched language norms) a sample is too time-consuming and often not analyzed to aged-matched norms. This presentation explores two language sample analysis (LSA) programs, SALT and SUGAR, and compares how each evidence-based program addresses SLP concerns about LSA and encourages its consistent incorporation into assessments.
